This is the best "AI news" update I've seen, and I read a tonne of them. Thanks so much Casey! I've read most of those sources you referenced, and took away similar learnings. The founder learnings are gold though: we don't get that stuff on Twitter (it's mostly sharing papers and tools), or blogs (mostly summarisers and speculators).

If I become a max paid sub, what is the probability you think you could keep this sort of quality up for >3 months? I'd be so grateful as I'm about to build another company and am trying to be careful with choosing the product I build, and I can see your insights as being fucking helpful as decision making inputs.

Hey Brent, that's so lovely to hear - thank you! I'm hesitant to make any promises but I hope to double down on meeting great AI folks and sharing the insights so hopefully this is what these updates continue to look like. That doesn't answer your paid sub question directly, but I am not particularly intent on paywalling as I'm just keen to facilitate interesting conversations and get as much feedback on my thought processes as possible :) Fortunately, given Square Peg's own passion for AI, they are happy for me to continue to dedicate time here.

Yeah commitments are dangerous in a constantly shifting landscape, and we're in the business of change! Anyway, thanks for your work.

Gotta love Aussie writing.

Would never call ourselves ‘Brilliantly Intelligent’. No love for posers or posturing. Or lining ourselves up for a chopping as a tall poppy.

Love a good double entendre ‘Artificially Intelligent’. Beautifully self deprecating.

However, got to love the most, triple entendre.

Brilliant. Intelligent. Cheeky.

Australian.

One aspect I appreciate about the style of writing is, you make a call about where you think things will end up heading. And since I'm fashionably late to the substack party...

The time delay offset from the writing to the reading means, during that time, some of the calls you've made - has come true. (e.g. Google Cloud releasing Agents, RAG and a whole bunch of other things in the Google Cloud 2024 conference a few days ago.)

Even if it doesn't play out. It's helpful to see the reasoning behind the instinct of where you think "the puck is skating too". We've got to hear someone call "heads" about golf ball trajectories flying through the air.

I'm about half way caught up on Casey's almanac. Very "Back to the Future". Looking forward to the next episodes.

Loving this as a helpful synthesis and conduit.

For software developers crafting tools, building lego brick primitives to connect to each other. We don't normally get to fly around and hear from builders on the other side of the world.

Generous writing gives us a relational proximity to hear from other builders around the world. I appreciate it.

The comments on "there are no moats" does reinforce the value of partnering with others beyond our own strengths, collaborations and combinations between technologies and others with closed data sets - rather than just being bigger/better/faster with one dimension. Atoms are more interesting when combined together, rather than just being bigger than others.

I came here today after Casey ran a session for Aus AI Sprints and she provided helpful perspectives. Curious to read more and learn - gather helpful food for thought for our team. Thanks!
